This Privacy Policy applies to persons seeking potential employment with American Airlines, Inc., or certain of American Airline Inc.'s affiliates (collectively, "we", "us", "our", or "American"), including on this job application website as well as flight attendant trainees. Some American affiliates have their own privacy policies and procedures in place apart from this Privacy Policy, so please check the website where you apply to review the applicable policy.

This Privacy Policy sets out the basis upon which we and our third-party partners may collect, use, store, share and keep secure the personal information provided to us in connection with your application for a position with American. Collection of Your Personal Information

American collects and processes personal information that you submit to us on (or generate when using) this job application website, including any CV(s) or résumé(s) that you upload and technical information about your use of the site (for example, device and browser type), as well as information collected or received from other sources (for example, professional references whom you designate), all in accordance with relevant, applicable law. This includes, without limitation:

  • Recruitment information – cover letter, resume, educational background, professional background, sex/gender, date of birth, ethnicity to the extent allowed or required by applicable law, nationality, areas of interest (e.g., legal, HR, IT, and so forth).
     
  • Contact information – name, telephone number, home address, personal e-mail addresses, national identification information.
     
  • Career and job performance information – job level/position, details of skills and experience from the references provided.
     
  • Background check information – if authorized by you and to the extent allowed by applicable law, including (as applicable) information about judicial disputes and criminal records.
     
  • Automatically collected information – information from our website and network, information, and/or security systems, including but not limited to information and interactions required to provide and monitor access to American’s websites, systems and networks. This information may include, for example: user session information; IP address; browser name; operating system details; domain name; date, time of visit and pages viewed (for example, to enable you to proceed through an online application form without losing information provided on a previous page). This information may be collected in a variety of ways, including through data logs or the use of cookies, web beacons and similar tracking technologies, all in accordance with applicable law. In addition, for applicants who may travel on-site for training or other purposes, American may capture similar information from American’s computer equipment, CCTV and key card entry systems, and video recordings of company events and activities, where applicable.
     
  • Public-Facing Information – publicly available social media profiles, content from external job bulletin boards, and so forth, as permitted by applicable law.


In addition, if you are a flight attendant trainee, we may collect and process additional information about you, including personality test results and video interviews. Some of this information may be considered sensitive in certain jurisdictions, and we will comply with relevant, applicable law when handling such information.

Use of Your Personal Information

American will use the personal information provided in this job application and information collected from other sources for specific business purposes, including:

  • Recruitment – to evaluate your application for employment with American, communicate with you about your application, conduct any necessary or appropriate background checks, comply with our diversity policy, manage any aspects of your prospective employment relationship with American.
     
  • Comply with legal obligations – to the extent allowable by applicable law – to comply with our administrative or human resources obligations in connection with litigation or an internal investigation or audit.

Change of Purpose

We may also engage other third parties to help us undertake activities such as managing and analyzing our job applications, helping applicants find future job opportunities with us, analyzing your use of this job application website, and helping us stay in contact with you if you use this website. International Data Transfers

Voluntary or Mandatory Provision

When collecting personal information from you, American will, where required by applicable law, inform you whether your provision of the requested information is voluntary or mandatory and if it is mandatory, the consequences of not providing it.

The provision of certain information is necessary for us to engage you as a contractor, for you to provide your services to American, or for us to perform our obligations under our contract with you or your employer, such as to pay for your services. We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose(s) for which we collected it. If you are unsuccessful with the application that you submit to us or in securing full-time employment after flight attendant training, we reserve the right to further retain your details for the purpose of assessing your suitability for other potential employment opportunities with American that may arise in the future. Applicants from the European Union and Switzerland

This section of the Privacy Policy applies only if you use the website or are applying for a job as a resident of the European Union, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, and supplements the other information in this Privacy Policy.

Controller of Personal Data

To the extent that American Airlines, Inc. is subject to the laws of the European Union, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom when processing personal data (“Personal Data”), it shall be the “data controller” under such laws.

Legal Basis for Data Processing

We process Personal Data for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, as described above. Our legal basis to process Personal Data includes processing that is:

  • necessary to comply with legal requirements (for example, to comply with applicable employment laws or accounting rules or to make mandatory disclosures to law enforcement);
  • necessary for our legitimate interests (for example, to manage our relationship with job applicants and to improve our job application website);
  • necessary to enter into or perform a contract between you and American, if applicable;
  • to protect the vital interests of you or another person;
  • to perform a task carried out in the public or substantial public interest (for example, to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified applicants or conduct a background check to the extent allowed or required by applicable law); and

The nature of American’s business means that the Personal Data collected through the website, or from other sources, will be transferred to the United States. Also, the American personnel and some of the third parties to whom we disclose Personal Data (as set out above) may be located in the United States and other countries outside of the European Union or Switzerland, including in countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country. We take appropriate steps to ensure that recipients of your Personal Data are bound to duties of confidentiality, and we implement measures such as standard data protection contractual clauses to ensure that any transferred Personal Data, remains protected and secure.
